Teaching Kids BJJ without a Curriculum?
So you are teaching kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but you don’t have a curriculum, right? I’ve heard this hundreds of times. This doesn’t surprise me, because I did it for a short time in 2004, and it about drove me crazy
So you are teaching kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but you don’t have a curriculum, right? I’ve heard this hundreds of times. This doesn’t surprise me, because I did it for a short time in 2004, and it about drove me crazy. I never felt organized (because I wasn’t), and I never really know how to and when to test the kids. Very unfair to the kids! Back then we were running on videos, seminars and visits to black belts around the country, and the curriculum as we know it now, didn’t exist. But as they say, times…they are a’changing! Actually, they have changed completely!
Like anything else in our lives, if we don’t have goals or a roadmap, we are never quite certain if we are on the right track. That is a large reason I began creating Kid-Jitsu® back in 2004 and have used it since 2005, and am now introducing Kid-Jitsu® University online here in 2016. If you are already teaching BJJ, then you will know a lot of what to teach, but may need some assistance in the sequence of techniques, possibly how to teach them specifically to kids, how to test them or in some cases, simply how to run a class. For this and more, I have good news.
Kid-Jitsu® University (www.kidjitsu.com) is a program specifically designed for martial arts instructors to be able to effectively and SAFELY teach BJJ to children. The fact that you are one of the ones who already teaches BJJ, but needs some direction will make this a fairly easy transition for you. Or, if you own a martial arts school, and need assistance from your blue or purple belts in teaching……..this just might be the ticket for you.
KJU is laid out in a way to take a child from white belt all the way up to the green-black belt of the IBJJF System. Each technique has a video, bullet-points of how to teach this technique to a child, templates for testing, guidelines for testing, and all the techniques listed by belt that must be perfected to pass on to the next belt.
We have skills and drills, bonus videos, games and more. It also comes with a world class character development program called C.O.R.E. Character Development, and we use this in our mat chats. C.O.R.E. was developed by world class athlete and motivational speaker Almon Gunter, Jr., who has taught hundreds of athletes on to full college scholarships including soccer star Carly Lloyd, and the current Heisman Trophy winner Derek Henry.
My friends, If you are tired of getting on the mat and just ‘winging it’ with the kids in BJJ, take a look at Kid-Jitsu® University. It’s the fastest growing system in the martial arts and is the largest and arguably the most well-known kids program within BJJ. Don’t forget: “If you don’t know where you are going, any road with take you there”
